We need a backup plan for Trump's nuclear button

For too many Americans, the past year has awoken fears that had faded over the past 30 years. President Donald Trump has threatened to rain "fire and fury" down upon North Korea. He has announced a program to build new and more "usable" nuclear weapons. A recent false alarm in Hawaii of an incoming missile attack sent thousands of families running for cover. Anxieties have risen to the point that a majority of Americans do not trust the president to handle a nuclear crisis.

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry Moves To Fast Track and Fund Disaster Medical Services

Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D – Winters) introduced AB 2576 to improve the ability of local clinics and their providers to rapidly respond and continue providing healthcare to patients during disasters. This bill is the result of lessons learned during the North Bay wildfires last Fall.

In October 2017, Northern California experienced devastating wildfires that claimed 44 lives and destroyed more than 14,700 homes and 728 businesses. As a result of the fires, community health centers in the affected counties suffered significant losses and unanticipated expenses, largely due to site closures. For instance, during this disaster, Santa Rosa Community Health’s largest health center, the Vista Campus, was destroyed due to extensive fire, smoke, heat, and water damage. This meant 24,000 of the 50,000 patients lost their medical home where they receive comprehensive primary care and mental health services, and hundreds of medical and administrative staff jobs that were also displaced.

Aguiar-Curry secures $15 million from Natural Resources Agency to complete Middle Creek Restoration Project

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) has made more significant progress in her efforts to improve the health of Clear Lake.

Curry, whose district includes Lake County, announced on Monday that successful work with Secretary John Laird of the California Natural Resources Agency, or CNRA, and the Department of Water Resources, or DWR, to secure $15 million to help complete the first phase of the Middle Creek Restoration project located at the north end of Clear Lake in Lake County.

Aguiar-Curry bill would expand child care for infants, toddlers

Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, has introduced AB 2292 to expand capacity for infant and toddler care in California.

This bill will increase state rates for infant and toddler care, create a grant program to fund implementation and startup costs of new child-care facilities, and establish a fund to recruit a new generation of family child-care providers.

Aguiar-Curry nets $15 million for lake project

SACRAMENTO >> Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) secured $15 million to aid in the Middle Creek Restoration project, part of an effort to promote the natural habitats and health of Clear Lake.

Aguiar-Curry made the announcement on Monday after successfully working with Secretary John Laird of the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) and the Department of Water Resources (DWR). The funds will help complete the first phase of the project, located at the north end of Clear Lake. The grant will be funded by bond proceeds from Propositions 84 and 1E.

Aguiar-Curry offers resolution supporting bill to limit nuclear authority

WINTERS — Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry has introduced a joint resolution in support of a congressional bill that would limit the president’s authority to use nuclear weapons against enemies.

“A nuclear holocaust isn’t Twitter, Mr. President. You can’t fire away and then hit the delete button after taking things too far,” Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, said in a statement released Tuesday to time with President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
