Cap-and-Trade Extension Will Fight Climate Change and Protect Agricultural Communities

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) voted to support a globally significant legislative initiative to extend the state’s cap-and-trade program, reduce local air pollution and protect workers and consumers from the cost of meeting the state's greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. The climate change package includes AB 398, AB 617 and ACA 1. Together, these bills will ensure that California continues to meet its ambitious environmental goals through extending and enhancing the cap-and-trade program, monitoring and reducing air pollution in our most vulnerable communities, and assuring a strong legislstive role in the management and spending of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund revenue. “This program is a model for governments around the world who share California's mission to stop global warming and the devastating effects of climate change. The package shows how we can strike a balance between aggressively protecting our environment and strengthening our economy,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry.
