Sacramento, CA - Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) honored Napa County resident Bernie A. Narvaez as the 2017 Fourth Assembly District Veteran of the Year at the State Capitol last Wednesday. Each year, the California Assembly honors veterans throughout the state.
“Bernie is a proven leader who bravely served our country and continues to serve his community every day,” said Assembly Aguiar-Curry. “I am honored to name him as the Fourth Assembly District Veteran of the Year.”
After the attacks on 9/11, Narvaez enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as soon as he turned 18. He served in the Marine Corps between 2004 and 2010, and was elevated to the rank of Sergeant by the time of his discharge. He served in Ramadi, Iraq; Camp Pendleton, and San Bruno, CA.
Narvaez currently serves as Commissioner for the City of Napa Parks and Recreation Committee, Governmental Affairs Director for the Napa County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and is a 2017 graduate of Leadership Napa Valley.
He also dedicates his time to serving several veterans’ organizations including the Napa Marine Corps League, AMVETS, VFW, American Legion, and Operation: With LOVE from HOME. In addition, he is active with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Rotary Club.
Narvaez was accompanied to the Capitol and the Veterans Recognition Luncheon by his wife, Gaby Narvaez, and his mother, Sonia Narvaez. Narvaez and his wife are expecting their first child in December.
Narvaez works as an independent insurance broker at Narvaez Insurance Services in Napa.
