SACRAMENTO, CA – This week, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bills 530 and 632 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) to benefit Solano and Lake Counties.  AB 530 allows the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District to expand its services into Middle Green Valley in Solano County. AB 632 allows Lake County to consolidate the elected offices of the Auditor-Controller and the Treasurer-Tax Collector into one single elected office. Both bills received overwhelming bipartisan support by the Legislature

“I am incredibly proud that the Governor quickly signed these two important bills for my constituents in Assembly District 4,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. “These bills come as a result of months of work with local stakeholders. Both AB 530 and AB 632 will directly benefit people in Solano and Lake Counties, and that is why it was my priority to introduce and pass these bills early this year.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assembly Bill 1036, by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), passed the Assembly Floor with a vote of 59-16. AB 1036 requires the Secretary of State to modernize outdated regulations governing county voter outreach programs and encourages the Secretary of State to provide additional support to counties with the lowest voter registration rates. This bill also establishes a High School Voter Education Pilot Program in Yolo County. The pilot allows county officials to conduct student government elections using voting machines and custom ballots in order to teach youth how to vote and encourage future voter participation.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, AB 998 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) passed the Assembly Floor with a bipartisan vote of 75-0. This bill makes State Route 128 eligible to be named as a “Scenic Highway,” which will increase local economic activity in the North Bay region and bring new appreciation to the beauty of the route.

“As a designated scenic highway, Highway 128 will promote tourism and enhance local pride in the region,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. “The communities along Highway 128 have been impacted by recent wildfires and other natural disasters. An official scenic highway designation will attract tourists and locals to these areas that have been working hard to rebuild and recover.”

ELDRIDGE, CA – Senators Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg, Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar Curry, D-Winters, announced today the tentative agreement on the Sonoma Development Center that will empower neighbors, the community and County of Sonoma to conduct a comprehensive community planning process focused on the potential future uses of the Sonoma Developmental Center, while also protecting the sacred open spaces of the undeveloped land.

The framework is the result of a three and a half year collaborative process between the Sonoma County Legislative Delegation, state agencies, and local stakeholders led by the County.

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D – Winters) and several of her Assembly colleagues held a press conference and rally yesterday in support of ACA 1, a constitutional amendment to boost local investment in infrastructure and affordable housing. Following the hearing, Aguiar-Curry presented the bill in the Assembly Local Government Committee, where it passed successfully on a 5-2, party-line vote.

ACA 1 would ask California Voters to approve a reduction of the vote threshold for the approval of bond and special tax measures for local affordable housing, supportive housing, and public infrastructure projects from a two-thirds vote to a 55 percent majority. This is the same vote threshold that currently applies to all local school construction bond measures. By making this change, ACA 1 puts housing and infrastructure projects on par with school proposals, so that cities, counties, and special districts have a practical financing tool to address community needs.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Joint Resolution 4, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), passed out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee with a bipartisan, 7-1 vote. The bill will next go to the Assembly Floor for a vote of the full State Assembly. Passing AJR 4 will put California’s Legislature on record demanding U.S. Congressional passage of and a Presidential signature on House Resolution 8, by Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena), the “Bipartisan Background Checks Act.”

“This success is particularly meaningful today, because the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 will be considered for a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives tomorrow.  I will do everything I can to support Congressman Thompson’s efforts,” said Aguiar-Curry. “Nearly 1200 children have been killed by guns in our country since the Parkland Shootings in Florida last year.  I simply cannot understand why Congress has not acted to pass a measure which prevents criminals and the mentally ill from bypassing checks on their ability to obtain weapons, especially ones meant for no other purpose than to hurt or kill human beings.” 

Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) introduced Assembly Bill 958, to provide local, organic food to children in schools. School meals with organic foods offer benefits for health, the environment, and California’s economy by increasing access to organic food for low-income children, decreasing pesticide exposure, increasing climate resilience, and supporting the organic market for California farmers.

California farmers grow food for the whole nation, and they grow more organic produce than any other state. Despite this, many low-income California communities do not have an adequate food supply of their own, and many children lack access to fresh, healthy food.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) introduced Assembly Bill 324, the “Childcare Professional Development Act.” This bill will provide expanded childcare workforce development grants to new providers, so that our state has the capacity to administer a higher level of care to an increased number of children.

“For the third year in a row, I will fight for high-quality, affordable childcare in California,” said Aguiar-Curry. “My bill, AB 324, will ensure that our kids and families can access early education programs by empowering new providers to enter the system and encouraging existing teachers to continue learning.  We now know that the job of education starts on day one.  Training and retaining qualified, committed professionals is critical to our children’s future.”

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry issued the following statement in response to the California State Auditor’s Report on the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) and Department of General Services (DGS) mismanagement of State Veterans Home Properties:

I am deeply troubled by the results of the audit detailing the mismanagement of the state’s Veterans Home properties.  I can only speak for the Yountville Home in my 4th Assembly District, but I have consistently expressed my concerns about the management of the home and conditions for veterans. The findings in the report that DGS and CalVet did NOT assure lease revenue generated on Veterans Home properties were returned back to the Homes is shocking. The conditions at the Yountville Home MUST be improved after years of underinvestment and deferred maintenance.
