Sacramento, CA – Assembly Bill 2063, by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), was signed by Governor Brown.  The bill will require a consumer’s ability to pay for home improvements to be determined prior to the signing of a financing agreement to fund those improvements, and before any construction work can start. The bill also makes other consumer protection improvements to the “property assessed clean energy” (PACE) program to ensure that the program can continue without putting homeowners at risk.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Brown signed Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry’s Assembly Bill 2576 into law over the weekend. This proposal, part of Aguiar-Curry’s package of wildfire recovery legislation, is critical to ensure that communities continue to receive timely access to health care when disaster strikes. After finding critical barriers to clinics’ and other health providers’ ability to provide health care and receive reimbursement for health services clinics during and after the devastating 2017 wildfires, Aguiar-Curry introduced AB 2576 to streamline the system.

The roughly 1,300 community health centers in California provide high-quality comprehensive care to 6.5 million people – that’s 1 in 6 Californians.  Community clinics provide the full spectrum of care, from primary care, to dental and behavioral care, and a variety of additional wraparound services to everyone, regardless of ability to pay, immigration status, or individual circumstances. However, when a clinic burns down or is damaged, the current rules restrict health providers from being able to deliver health services in the field.

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 1772, AB 2380, and AB 2518, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), were signed by Governor Brown today.  In October 2017, California experienced the most devastating wildfire in state history. 44 Californian lives were claimed, and more than 14,700 homes and 728 businesses were damaged or destroyed, totaling over $12 billion worth of damage.  Wildfires of this magnitude pollute the air and wipe out gains we make reducing California’s carbon footprint. These three bills came about in the aftermath of those devastating fires that destroyed so much of our state and affected many families and communities in Assembly District 4.

“Four of my counties – Lake, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma – were on fire last October. For many, it wasn’t the first time,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. “It breaks my heart to think about the magnitude of loss families across California are experiencing due to fires. These bills will ensure that California is better prepared to prevent future wildfires, combat them when they do occur, and recover in the aftermath.”

AB 2674, by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) was signed into law today by Governor Jerry Brown. The new law will require the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) to annually review complaints filed by providers who believe a health care service plan is engaging in an “unfair payment pattern.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assembly Joint Resolution 30, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), was approved by the State Senate earlier this week. The resolution urges Congress to reassert its role in approving acts of war in a nuclear first-strike, by passing H.R. 669, 24-8.

Sacramento, CA – HR 114, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D – Winters), passed on the Assembly floor earlier this week with overwhelming bipartisan support. The resolution dedicates October 26, 2018 as Pediatric Epilepsy Day.

Epilepsy is the most common brain disorder worldwide-affecting 1 percent of the population, yet receives half of one percent of the annual National Institute of Health funding. Sudden Death in Epilepsy accounts for 34% of all sudden deaths in children and 50 percent of cases begin in childhood. HR 114 raises awareness to the dangers of pediatric epilepsy and urgently motivates families to get an early diagnosis and treatment.

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 666, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) and co-authored by Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa), was signed into law by Governor Brown earlier this week. AB 666 is inspired by the confusion that everyone who represents multiple counties experience when filing for every election.

AB 666 will allow candidates running in multi-county districts to submit the candidate statement form from their home county to all the other counties in the district. It would also require county elections officials to accept this form electronically.

Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D – Winters) introduced AB 2576 to improve the ability of local clinics and their providers to rapidly respond and continue providing healthcare to patients during disasters. This bill is the result of lessons learned during the North Bay wildfires last Fall.

In October 2017, Northern California experienced devastating wildfires that claimed 44 lives and destroyed more than 14,700 homes and 728 businesses. As a result of the fires, community health centers in the affected counties suffered significant losses and unanticipated expenses, largely due to site closures. For instance, during this disaster, Santa Rosa Community Health’s largest health center, the Vista Campus, was destroyed due to extensive fire, smoke, heat, and water damage. This meant 24,000 of the 50,000 patients lost their medical home where they receive comprehensive primary care and mental health services, and hundreds of medical and administrative staff jobs that were also displaced.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) introduced Assembly Joint Resolution 30 today urging Congress to assert its role in the approval of acts of war in a nuclear first-strike scenario.

HR 669, authored by California Representative Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County), would prohibit the President from unilaterally authorizing the deployment of nuclear weapons in an offensive attack absent express authorization from Congress.  The proposed legislation does not impede a President’s ability to respond in-kind to a nuclear attack on the United States. HR 669 is co-sponsored by Representatives Garamendi (D-Walnut Grove) and Thompson (D-St. Helena) along with 18 other California Members of Congress.
