(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) knows how important farmworker housing centers are to agricultural communities. These shelters help the state’s agricultural industry support its workers with safe housing. In Napa County, the three farmworker centers house 60 lodgers each, and provide renters with three meals per day, hot showers, laundry facilities, and other programs. Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry’s legislation (AB 317) establishes and funds the Napa County Farmworker Centers Account within the Department of Housing and Community Development to assist in the financing, maintenance, and operation of the Napa County Housing Authority’s Farmworker Centers. “The Napa County farmworker centers meet a critical housing need for the entire agricultural region,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. “The general lack of affordable housing has only exacerbated the problem.
