Governor signs Aguiar-Curry bill to legalize, regulate hemp-derived CBD

State Assembly member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) announced Wednesday the governor’s signing of her comprehensive legislation to legalize and regulate hemp cannabinoids, or CBD, in California.

That legislation, Assembly Bill 45, allows CBD derived from hemp to be produced and sold in the state once it meets rigorous testing and regulatory requirements, established in the bill.

An urgency measure that received bipartisan support in the Legislature, AB 45 goes into effect immediately.

Aguiar-Curry joins amicus brief on abortion case

SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) announced Thursday that she has joined nearly 900 state lawmakers from across California and around the country in signing an amicus brief in support of women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions in Dobbs v. Women’s Health Organization.

Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry’s bill to require California olives in ‘California’ olive oil moves to the Governor’s Office

On Wednesday, Assembly Bill 535 passed the State Assembly by a vote of 70-0.

The bill, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), establishes clear guidelines for how companies from the olive oil industry can use the term “California.”

AB 535 requires companies in their product labeling and marketing to disclose the minimum percentage of California olives on the front of the container in the same font and size as the term “California.”

$6 billion dollar broadband budget passes legislature, delivering internet to all Californians

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) announced that AB 156, the Broadband Budget Bill, passed the Assembly with a 78-0, bipartisan vote. The bill later passed the State Senate by 39-0 margin.

Aguiar-Curry was a member of the Assembly negotiating team that keyed the deal with Governor Newsom and the Senate on the package. AB 156 revolutionizes the State’s broadband deployment program under the California Advanced Services Fund Program and provides new and increased funding to bring California into the technological 21st Century.

Aguiar-Curry telehealth bill flies out of committee

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Bill 32, authored by Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, and Assemblyman Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, to expand virtual telehealth services,  passed its first significant hurdle on Tuesday receiving a bipartisan, 13-0 vote in the Assembly Health Committee.

California State Assembly committee approves Yolo County drug treatment pilot program

The California State Assembly Public Safety Committee passed a bill that would grant Yolo County the ability to build a secure drug treatment facility for people involved in the criminal justice system who also suffer from substance use disorders.

AB 1542, named “Hope Yolo,” was written by Assemblyman Kevin McCarty along with Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig and Yolo County Supervisor Gary Sandy. It was co-authored by State Sen. Bill Dodd and Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

Lake County lawmakers honored as legislators of the year by statewide local government association

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – On Wednesday, special districts throughout California recognized Representative John Garamendi (D-Walnut Grove) and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) as their Legislators of the Year at a virtual event.

This is the first year that the California Special Districts Association, or CSDA, has chosen to recognize both a state and federal lawmaker with this distinction.

A pair of politicians who represent Solano County have been named Legislators of the Year by the California Special Districts Association (CSDA).

Rep. John Garamendi and Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, both Democrats whose districts include portions of Solano County, were recognized for their work supporting special districts in California over a special Zoom event. Special districts are local government agencies created by the people to provide essential services such as water, sanitation, fire protection, parks and more.
