SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 872 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) into law late last night. AB 872 addresses an inequity in California’s complicated property tax reassessment laws to help save small family farms.

AB 872 expands the existing change-in-ownership exclusion in property tax law, which allows property to be passed down from a parent to a child without being reassessed to a higher property tax value. This new protection will ensure that if a small, family-owned farm was incorporated prior to Prop 58, it will receive the same family heritage protections that proposition intended.

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) made the following statement today, in response to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s action to hold AB 228 on Suspense. AB 228 would have established a framework for the legal production and sale of hemp-based CBD products in California.

“I have worked diligently with the hemp and cannabis industries and with the Newsom Administration this year to establish a legal and regulatory framework that would allow hemp-derived CBD to be produced and sold in California. Consumers are excited about the opportunity to purchase CBD products made from hemp that will not also result in a “high” associated with the THC found in marijuana products.

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 815 authored by Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. AB 815 encourages local governments to increase curbside separation in their recycling programs, often called “dual-stream recycling,” to reduce contamination in the recycling stream.

“When we throw all of our recyclables into the same bin, glass breaks, leftover soda spills on copy paper, and many recycled materials become too dirty to be reused. We used to send our contaminated recyclables to China, polluting land and water overseas, but China won’t take it anymore. AB 815 will keep our recyclables cleaner and more marketable so they can actually be turned into new products,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. 

SACRAMENTO, CA – Over the weekend, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 998 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) into law. This bill makes State Route 128 eligible to be designated as an official “Scenic Highway,” which will increase local economic activity in the North Bay region and bring newfound appreciation to the beauty of the route.

“I am ecstatic that the Governor recognizes the importance of this bill and what it means for the communities along Highway 128. This region has been impacted by natural disasters and wildfires, and they are working hard to rebuild and recover,” said Aguiar-Curry. “An official scenic highway designation will promote tourism to these areas and boost community pride.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – This week, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bills 530 and 632 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) to benefit Solano and Lake Counties.  AB 530 allows the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District to expand its services into Middle Green Valley in Solano County. AB 632 allows Lake County to consolidate the elected offices of the Auditor-Controller and the Treasurer-Tax Collector into one single elected office. Both bills received overwhelming bipartisan support by the Legislature
