Newsom signs telehealth, cannabis bills by Aguiar-Curry and McGuire

SACRAMENTO — This weekend, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed bills by both of Lake County’s state representatives.

The governor signed 80 bills this weekend and vetoed over 120, wrapping up the 2019 legislative season. Among the bills signed were two introduced by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, and one by Sen. Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg), both of whom represent Lake County at the capitol. Newsom also vetoed two Aguiar-Curry bills this weekend.

Governor signs Aguiar-Curry bill to increase access to pharmacy care

SACRAMENTO – On Thursday night Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 690, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters).

Assembly Bill 690 will increase access to pharmacy care in vulnerable and rural areas of California, by authorizing the use of telepharmacy in medically underserved areas and streamlining the process for pharmacies to reopen after a natural disaster.

The bill contains an urgency clause, which means its provisions go into effect immediately.

Assembly Bill 690 will increase access to pharmacy care in vulnerable and rural areas of California, by authorizing the use of telepharmacy in medically underserved areas and streamlining the process for pharmacies to reopen after a natural disaster.

Governor Signs Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry’s Legislation to Preserve Small Family Farms, Agricultural Open Space

SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 872 by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) into law late last night. AB 872 addresses an inequity in California’s complicated property tax reassessment laws to help save small family farms.

AB 872 expands the existing change-in-ownership exclusion in property tax law, which allows property to be passed down from a parent to a child without being reassessed to a higher property tax value. This new protection will ensure that if a small, family-owned farm was incorporated prior to Prop 58, it will receive the same family heritage protections that proposition intended.

California Bill Would Level the Playing Field for Telehealth

A bill sitting on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk would expand telehealth access to all state residents by requiring health plans to reimburse providers for appointments that would have the same impact whether in person or via video conferencing, for example.

Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry, Yolo County Win State Funding for County Road 40 Low Water Bridge Safety Project

(Woodland, CA) - Yolo County congratulates Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry’s (D-Winters) relentless efforts in securing $2.2M in state funding to replace County Road (CR) 40 Low Water Bridge.  The funding was included Senate Bill 109, which was signed by Governor Newson last week, to provide funding for the project through CalFire local assistance grants.

The existing CR 40 Low Water Bridge is a critical fire access road into the rural reaches of Yolo, Lake and Napa counties. The bridge has deteriorated significantly since being built over 100 years ago and is unable to support the weight of fire-fighting apparatuses or other vehicles, hampering CalFire’s efforts to gain access to this fire-prone region.

Yolo assemblywoman receives ‘Pacesetter Award’

SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry has received the Women’s Legislators Lobby Pacesetter Award in recognition of her bold leadership in carrying Assembly Joint Resolution 30, “Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act” through the California Legislature.

The resolution called on Congress to pass H.R. 669, authored by California Representative Ted Lieu, D-Los Angeles County, to prohibit the President from unilaterally authorizing the deployment of nuclear weapons in an offensive attack without specific authorization from Congress.

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry Responds to the Senate Appropriations Committee Holding AB 228 on Suspense

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) made the following statement today, in response to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s action to hold AB 228 on Suspense. AB 228 would have established a framework for the legal production and sale of hemp-based CBD products in California.

“I have worked diligently with the hemp and cannabis industries and with the Newsom Administration this year to establish a legal and regulatory framework that would allow hemp-derived CBD to be produced and sold in California. Consumers are excited about the opportunity to purchase CBD products made from hemp that will not also result in a “high” associated with the THC found in marijuana products.

Governor Signs Aguiar-Curry Bill to Clean Up Recycling and Reduce Environmental Pollution at Home and Overseas

SACRAMENTO, CA – AB 815 authored by Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. AB 815 encourages local governments to increase curbside separation in their recycling programs, often called “dual-stream recycling,” to reduce contamination in the recycling stream.

“When we throw all of our recyclables into the same bin, glass breaks, leftover soda spills on copy paper, and many recycled materials become too dirty to be reused. We used to send our contaminated recyclables to China, polluting land and water overseas, but China won’t take it anymore. AB 815 will keep our recyclables cleaner and more marketable so they can actually be turned into new products,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry.
