Bill Aims To Give Minority Farmers A Greater Say In Agriculture Policy

A bill unanimously approved by the Assembly Agricultural Committee Wednesday could significantly alter the way the California Department of Food and Agriculture works with farmers of color.

The Farmer Equity Act would support minority farmers by adding them to the definition for “Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers” in existing California Food and Agriculture code.

Aguiar-Curry honors Judge David Rosenberg for Assembly Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry on Monday honored Judge David Rosenberg at the California State Assembly annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony.

Judge Rosenberg is the son of Holocaust survivors Fay and Harry Rosenberg.

“It was a privilege to have Judge Rosenberg at the Capitol to honor him and his parents,” said Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), whose district includes Lake County.

Aguiar-Curry bill to promote renewable energy jobs passes in the face of utility opposition

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) passed AB 920 out of the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee last week despite intense utility opposition.

AB 920 will maintain a place in the energy market for renewable resources such as geothermal, biomass, and biogas.

These resources provide high-paying jobs across California – particularly in Colusa, Lake, Yolo and Sonoma counties in her Fourth Assembly District – improve air quality, and help ensure our electricity supply is reliable.

Aguiar-Curry introduces bill to ‘Make Clear Lake Clear,’ establish blue ribbon committee

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – A bill to create a blue ribbon committee to study Clear Lake and develop a plan to protect and improve its conditions passed unanimously out of the Assembly’s Natural Resources Committee this week.

Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), who represents Lake County in the Assembly, introduced AB 707.

The bill establishes a blue ribbon committee for the study of potential threats to Clear Lake water quality and will develop and monitor any necessary plan to assure the lake’s health.

Aguiar-Curry to examine wine industry issues in the Assembly

SACRAMENTO — For the third year running, a representative of Napa will again lead efforts in the state Assembly to study issues affecting the California wine industry.

With her appointment this month as chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Wine, Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, will be at the forefront of identifying and examining issues that affect the wine industry in Napa and the state. In her new role, Aguiar-Curry succeeds former 4th District Assemblymember and current state Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, the committee’s previous chair.
